Montreal Conference on Hellenic-Israeli Relations

Montreal, Quebec, Canada (March 28, 2011) - On Monday, April 4, 2011, two pioneer events took place in Montreal with the participation of the Greek and Jewish communities. To emphasize the bilateral and communal nature of the events, the conference proceedings alternated between the Montreal Hellenic Community Centre (5757 Wilderton Avenue) and the Gelber Conference Center/CJA Federation Building (5151 Cote Ste-Catherine). The first event, at the Hellenic Community Centre, was a workshop highlighting the temporal relationship between the two peoples, and examined the national issues currently of concern to Greece and Israel. Speakers included Professor Kenneth Matziorinis (McGill University), Professor Amikam Nachmani (Bar-Ilan University), Professor Andreas Gerolymatos (Simon Fraser University), and Professor Harold Waller (McGill University). Μόντρεαλ, Κεμπέκ, Καναδάς (4 Απριλίου, 2011). Την Δευτέρα, 4 Απριλίου, λαμβάνουν χώρα στο Μόντρεαλ δυό εκδηλώσεις με συμμετοχή μελών από την Ελληνική και την Εβραϊκή παροικία. Οι εκδηλώσεις είναι πρωτοποριακές, γιατί οργανώθηκαν από κοινού από τους κορυφαίους οργανισμούς των δύο παροικιών στον Καναδά, την «Επιτροπή Ισραήλ – Καναδά», την ΑXΕΠΑ, το «Ελληνο-Καναδικό Κογκρέσσο», και το «Εβραϊκό Κογκρέσσο του Κεμπέκ». Εκτός των παροικιακών οργανισμών οι εκδηλώσεις γίνονται με την συμπαράσταση και συμμετοχή των πρέσβεων Ισραήλ και Ελλάδος, της κυρίας Miriam Ziv και του κυρίου Ελευθερίου Αγγελοπούλου, των γενικών προξένων τους στο Μόντρεαλ, Yoram’s Elron και Θάνου Καφόπουλου, ως και των Καναδών γερουσιαστών Ελληνικής και Εβραϊκής καταγωγής, Λεωνίδα Χουσάκου και Linda’s Frum. MONTREAL AHEPA FAMILY FULFILS $250,000 PLEDGE TO SHRINERS HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN AND SHRINERS NAME SCHOOL AFTER AHEPA

MONTREAL, QUE – The Montreal AHEPA Family is proud to announce that it has fulfilled its six-year drive to raise $250,000 for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal. The balance of $58,000 that helped reach this goal was raised at the 12th Annual St-Valentine’s Charitable Ball that took place on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Palace Reception Hall in Laval. Over the past twelve years the St-Valentine’s Ball has raised $400,000 for children’s causes. Other institutions that have been supported in the past include the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the St-Justine Hospital, the Giant Steps Foundation and the Children’s Wish Foundation.
